|SPOILER| Amanda Righetti short interview

The Mentalist star Amanda Righetti has confessed she sometimes feels desensitised to the disturbing issues of death and grief the show deals with.

Simon Baker stars in the hit US crime drama as mentalist Patrick Jane, who uses his unique insight into the human psyche to help solve crimes, and Amanda plays Special Agent Grace Van Pelt, the newest member of the investigation team.

Amanda said: "It's funny because sometimes we get desensitised to it because we are doing it week in week out, but people who are dealing with these kind of issues, it's really sad, and any kind of support system you can offer I think is great."

The actress also revealed a massive spoiler for the new season of the show - that they will finally catch serial killer Red John, who murdered Jane's wife and daughter. Amanda said: "Season 6 apparently they're going to catch Red John. Seriously, that's what I heard. I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you. I don't know who he is. But apparently we catch him!"

|VIDEO| 'Mentalist' Honors 100th Episode with Flashback

The Mentalist airs its 100th episode on Sunday, and before the milestone episode hits the airwaves, the cast and crew threw a party to celebrate the accomplishment. As they toasted to 100 episodes, they reflected on the past five seasons.

Not only did the cast have an opportunity to reflect upon the course of the show from its very beginning but viewers will have the same opportunity when watching the 100th episode, which flashes back to show how Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) met Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and the rest of the CBI gang.

On the red carpet at the party, the cast had a blast thinking back on the past 100 episodes and the evolution of the show and its characters. As the cast members looked forward to the show's hopeful 100 more episodes to come, they had some comical propositions for what the show should explore next.

As much as his fellow cast mates would like him to lead the cast in a musical episode, Baker assures that his character won't be displaying any hidden theatrical talents any time soon.

"I think that's the point where I'm going to be on vacation somewhere," he said on the prospect of the cast partaking in a musical episode.

Check out the special 100th episode of The Mentalist this Sunday at 10 p.m. on CBS.

|SPOILER| Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on Cho, Van Pelt and Rigsby

The Mentalist | Dipping into the mailbag, Laura asks: “Can I have a scoop about other characters from The Mentalist, like Van Pelt and Rigsby?” I relayed your request to EP Tom Szentgyorgyi, who for starters promised we’ll meet “someone new in Van Pelt’s future.” As for Rigsby, “He will cross paths with his father again, and continue to cope with his new life as a single dad.” (As show boss Bruno Heller previously teased, the Rigsby men’s “very conflicted and difficult relationship… comes to an epic head in Episode 4.”) As an added bonus, Szentgyorgyi shared that “Cho will start moonlighting with a second CBI unit, which leads him to a surprising encounter with someone from his past.” Scoop need sated?

|SPOILER| Ask Ausiello and Mega Buzz about Van Pelt and Cho

----------

Question: Anything about The Mentalist! —Sonia
Ausiello: Amanda Righetti’s real-life pregnancy (which, as we previously reported, will not be written into Van Pelt’s storyline) will create a vacancy on the show’s canvas this spring — one that may or may not be filled. “It’s hard to say how long [she'll be gone] because these things are not predictable,” admits exec producer Bruno Heller, adding, “We’re talking about [whether to bring in someone new] now. But we’re not going to replace her just to have another face in the room. It depends. If we come up with a good story, then yes. If not, no.” Heller goes on to say it’s unlikely her departure will be turned into a major plot point. “We’ll explain [her absence],” he explains. “But this is not the kind of show where we do elaborate, stunty exits… I think we will find something a little more normal for her absence and not [have] her in jail or on charged with murder or kidnapped or anything like that.”

Why must The Mentalist bring back Cho's love interest Summer? I don't like her! — Ellen
ADAM: Don't worry, Ellen: Summer (guest star Samaire Armstrong) won't be back until around midseason. Before then, you'll get to see a whole new side of Cho when he becomes the leader of the CBI SWAT team! "Of all our guys, he's the one to go in first and kick in the door and to actually get physical with people," executive producer Bruno Heller tells us. But his promotion may come with a price. "When you have a hammer in your hand, every problem looks like a nail," Heller warns. "Being addicted to thrills is a very dangerous road to go down in the long run because you have to keep upping the ante."

|SPOILER| Amanda Righetti Expecting First Child – Is Van Pelt Preggers Too?

Does Van Pelt have a bun in the oven?

The Mentalist‘s Amanda Righetti is expecting her first child this spring with husband Jordan Alan, which has prompted the usual speculation about her character’s future as a mom.

TVLine can exclusively confirm that art will not imitate life in this case. Van Pelt will not be pregnant, and the show will shoot around Righetti’s baby bump.

It makes sense, considering the detective isn’t currently involved with anyone on the show.
